Sorry it took me so long to get around to the episode! I was in Vegas this past weekend.
That was a very emotional ending, with Louise recalling the ups and downs of her marriage and then the twins being there to comfort her. I expected her to try and shut down or push them away, and for once, she didn't. She's so controlling and closed-off, but that's exactly what she SHOULD be doing -- opening up and accepting support. The lack of that is a contributing factor to why her and Sean's marriage failed. This also strikes me as the first time she's let the girls "parent" her a bit, which is a new dynamic.
I was surprised that Lynn and Elijah confessed their feelings for one another so openly! But that was sweet. Doesn't seem like things will be quite as straightforward for Tanner and Tommy. It was an interesting note to have Tanner noticing a feeling that she's never experienced before. I remember being younger and feeling that all-consuming, illogical jealousy over a crush. Very real teenage emotion.
Mae seems like a very strong individual, so it's intriguing to see her be so tested by Will's situation and how to feel, let alone handle it. There are a lot of things at play there, from her own personal feelings about how she's parented her kids to the fact that, as you pointed out, it's a smaller black population in Radcliffe and they get an unfair amount of attention and scrutiny for any perceived wrongdoing. I have a feeling that Will's reintegration into society isn't going to be so smooth.
Good episode! I like continuing to see all these hints of new or different dynamics.
